@elainerhayes Today was Leo’s first day of school, and just like I knew he would, he ran right in, hurriedly said “bye, Mama” and then he was off. Not even a second glance over his shoulder. And then I went and cried in my car bc my baby is growing up way too fast. 😭

That’s the thing about being a parent — kids seem to grow up and away from you little by little with each milestone. It’s both wonderful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Being Leo’s mom has and continues to be an ongoing lesson for me in letting go, going with the flow, and having faith, and I’m so thankful for this journey. 💛 #leomhayes

@elainerhayes If someone had told me ten years ago when I was in law school that I would drop out, become a Pilates teacher, start a home studio, develop my own approach to Pilates, open a small commercial space, create a teacher training program, quadruple our studio space (while simultaneously growing a human 🤰🏻), eventually employ 30+ people and counting, and open a second location (with more coming soon - you heard it here first!), I probably would have burst out laughing and said there was NO way.

You see, back then I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t think I was strong enough, smart enough, good enough, special enough... Not enough of anything, really. But there was something deep within me that somehow, despite it all, believed in me. And in taking all those little leaps along the way, I listened to that quiet voice that said, “You CAN do it, you ARE enough.” And with each leap, comes a little more confidence and a little more strength. And the amazing thing is, the moment you start believing in yourself, that’s when everyone else does too and the universe allows for that flow to come through you so you can create beautiful things.

Here’s to SIX years of @mntstudio. Of being a bright spot in people’s lives, of community, team work, growth, and love. Thankful for all the people past and present who have helped make MNT what it is today, and so excited for all that is to come. Happy Birthday, MNT. 💛

@elainerhayes It may only be mid-August, but I’m already counting down the days for the #MNTxTulum Retreat in November! 😎

If you haven’t heard of #MNTretreats, here’s what they’re all about: Twice-daily workouts led mostly by me 🙂, optional meditation, healthy and nourishing food, down time at the beach, amazing people, laughing until your abs hurt (unclear whether from so much Pilates or from laughing 😆), and of course a margarita or two bc #balance. 🍹

Our last retreat was truly magical and this one’s shaping up to be just as special. If you’re looking for an opportunity to unplug from the daily hustle, reconnect with yourself and others, and return refreshed and ready to take on life as your best, most authentic, empowered self, this retreat is for you. Mark your calendars: November 8-12 in Tulum, Mexico. Link in bio for more info. Tag a bestie who needs to go on this retreat with you! 💃🏻

@elainerhayes Breaking in my new deck with a killer abs and booty flow using a band! You guys, I’m loving this flow so much I’m going to do my own video today. Just sayin’. 😆 This workout comes in three parts, so for parts 2 + 3, see the other two #IGTV videos. Lmk in the comments what you want to see next! Happy Saturday! 💗

@elainerhayes Here are some deep Friday thoughts for you 😆: Are you someone who allows yourself to celebrate your accomplishments? Or are you more like this: You strive for something, and then the minute you reach that goal, it’s onto the next thing, and somehow, it’s just never enough?

I tend to be the latter, and if you’re anything like me, you know that’s really no fun at all, bc here is what happens: It’s like an itch you just can’t scratch — you work and work towards something, and then once you get it, you still don’t have the feeling of gratification you were looking for, so then you set the bar higher and higher. It’s like you’re on your own self-made hamster wheel. 🐹

The problem with this is that all the busyness keeps us from looking at what it is we’re really trying to fulfill, and the truth is that it’s probably some old wound about not being good enough.

This is something I’m definitely still working on, and I don’t have all the answers, but sometimes just noting a pattern helps it loosen its grip on you. 💛

@elainerhayes One of the questions I get asked all the time is “How do I start my own studio?” As most of you know, I started @mntstudio in my apartment with one Reformer that I paid for on a credit card. 😆 My dream was to open my very own studio, but I had no idea how to get there and it seemed like an impossible (and scary) mountain to climb. I’m playing with the idea of creating an online course teaching you the step by step of how to start, grow, and run a successful studio, so lmk if that’s something you’d be into! In the meantime, here are 3 steps to get you started:

1️⃣ Do all the learning you can and fine-tune your teaching so that you become the best instructor you can be.

2️⃣ Start small. Maybe it’s by teaching free pop up classes at a local park, traveling to people’s homes and not charging much, or doing what I did and setting up a home studio with little to no overhead.

3️⃣ Create a business plan. Even if opening a studio seems like a far-off pipe dream, write a detailed business plan, create a vision board, and allow that to exist in the universe. You never know when you’ll be in a position to present your plan and make things happen. ✨

One of the questions I get asked all the time is “How do I start my ow...

@elainerhayes Anyone else almost feel bad editing pictures of your kids? They’re so beautiful already, it doesn’t feel right. Note: I’m talking about the exposure, contrast, etc... Not airbrushing! 🤣

Anywho, I wanted to pass along a wonderful book I’m currently listening to on Audible called ‘No-Drama Discipline.’ You GUYS, it’s a game-changer and is completely transforming how I deal with tantrums and moments of frustration. Bc don’t let that adorable little face fool you — when this little nugget doesn’t get what he wants he has no problem screeching, throwing things, and flailing his body around. 😆

But I have to say I’ve already started implementing some of the gentle approaches outlined in the book and it’s WORKING! The main idea is we as parents need to view moments of misbehavior as opportunities to impart important lessons like self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and impulse control, as opposed to being so focused on the moment itself.

It’s been so eye opening for me so if any of you parents out there are looking for an empathic approach to discipline, I highly recommend this one. 🙌🏼

@elainerhayes The other day someone asked me how I stay focused when I have so many different projects going on, and the answer is that it takes a lot of effort for me to stay focused. I’m a pretty typical entrepreneur in that I have a million ideas and tend to jump around from thing to thing, telling myself that I’m “multitasking” but at the end of the day often have little to show for it. 🤪 BUT, over the years I’ve come up with some tricks that have helped me focus and be more productive, so I thought I’d share:

1️⃣ Meditation 🧘🏻‍♀️This has helped me calm my mind to create space and block out some of the noise so I can focus on one thing at a time.
2️⃣ Create before you consume 👩🏻‍🎨 I have a rule that before I check email, look at social media, or check my messages, I need to create something first. That might mean posting my own post, working on the latest content I’m creating, or even meditating. The idea is that you are putting something out into the world before you consume what others have created.
3️⃣ Stop checking email compulsively 🤓Your inbox is full of other people’s priorities, not your own. Don’t allow emails to dictate how you spend your day. Instead, strategically check email and schedule times to respond so you aren’t being constantly interrupted.
4️⃣ Set a timer ⏱ When I really just need to crank something out, I set a timer at 30 minute intervals where I’m not allowed to check social media, texts, get a snack, go to the bathroom... Nothing but the task at hand.

So there you go! It’s definitely still a struggle for me but using some of these techniques has helped me immensely get s*** done and run my day so it doesn’t run me. Do you have any go-to tips for focusing and being productive? 💛

@elainerhayes Between running my business, overseeing two construction projects, preparing to open #MNTPA, rewriting our Reformer manual, planning our upcoming #MNTxTulum Retreat, figuring out a plan for and moving my dad into an assisted living facility, being a mom, and trying to take care of myself.... I’ve been feeling a tad bit busy. 🙃 If it sounds like a lot, it’s bc it is. But surprisingly I am pretty ok. I thought I’d share some coping tools that have been helping me bc maybe they’ll help you too when you need a little extra something:
1️⃣ Meditation. This has been my anchor. Even when there’s chaos around me, I’m still able to find that inner calm and I credit my meditation practice for my newfound ability to do that.
2️⃣ Exercise. Taking just 20-30 minutes for myself makes all the difference, and I notice a clear change in my mood throughout the day if I work out.
3️⃣ Talk about it. This can be with friends, with a therapist, with family — just make sure you pick someone who is empathetic and won’t just try to give you a bunch of opinions. Talking out loud about what’s going on in your life helps to lighten the load. It also helps put things in perspective
4️⃣ Sleep. I can’t stress enough the importance of sleep, especially when you have a lot going on and need to be at your best. These days, I tuck myself in at 9pm every night. Yes, it sucks to not really have any evening time after Leo goes down, but it’s worth it to me so I can have energy and a clear mind during the day.

@elainerhayes When I first started teaching ten years ago(!) I would write down every single thing I was going to teach in class, and then constantly be checking my list throughout class to make sure I didn’t stray from my plan. Initially, this served me bc I needed that reassurance of a plan, but after a while, I realized it was impeding me.
.
One day I forgot my notebook at home and panicked when I arrived to the studio I was teaching at. How would I teach without my notes?! That day, I taught my best classes yet. Not having to stick to an exact plan allowed me to just flow, and I felt fully present and engaged in a way I hadn’t before. From that day on, I stopped using notes for class. Yes, I always have a plan but it’s not on a piece of paper, and if inspiration strikes me mid-class, I just go with it and trust that the outcome will be beautiful. ✨
.
So if there’s something you’re holding onto tightly for protection or assurance, consider loosening your grip and see what unfolds. Sometimes it’s in those moments that we learn to trust ourselves and the universe to lead us to exactly where we need to be. 💛

When I first started teaching ten years ago(!) I would write down ever...
