@nutritionbeatz Oxygen & Energy👇🏻
If there's one thing that mitochondria thrive on, its oxygen. Low oxygen means decreased mitochondrial function. Decreased mito. function means decreased energy for the whole body.
Electron transport chain (ETC) inside the mitochondria responds to oxygen levels by undergoing compensatory changes in reduced electron carrier levels.
Low mitochondrial activity means a lot: low energy levels, impaired digestion, constipation, foggy brain, morning fatigue…
Training your body to have a good oxygen flow is easy, and you can do daily: increase your heart rate, take in a deep breath, hold on to that deep breath for 5 seconds, exhale, repeat. Best place to do is of course where? Nature🧚🏻‍♂️
Ps: I love everything you send me❣️ tag me and #esinmademedoit👋🏻 Health is wealth and we can spread the word🦋

@nutritionbeatz Depth into Heart Attacks👇🏻
After the Korean War in 1950, a startling study was done. Out of the 300 autopsied male soldiers aged around twenty-two, 231 of them had evidence of serious heart disease. Some soldiers even had arteries that were 90% blocked. What was remarkable was that these soldiers never had heart attacks🤔 This led to study after study, all with the hope to understand the nature of a #heartattack.
Turns out when plaque accumulates slowly over years, blood flow has time to adjust and collaterals (side blood vessels) form. This hardly results in a heart attack; it instead chronically damages tissues and organs. Korean soldiers were perhaps an example for this.
The plaque that blocks less than 50% of the artery, on the other hand, is the most deadly. The reason is that the free radicals in the blood have a great potential to cause that #plaque to rupture and start flowing inside the blood vessels. Once the flowing plaque encounters an artery that is tiny enough to not let the plaque pass, #blood flow is blocked. Once an artery is blocked, the result is most likely a heart attack.
Promising prevention for heart attack is a healthy diet that minimises #freeradicals and the formation of plaques, 👉🏻 whole foods & plant based😉

@nutritionbeatz Obesity & Genes👇🏻🤷🏼‍♀️
Nowadays great publicity is given to the discovery of “the obesity genes”. The purpose behind the obesity gene search is to allow researchers to “develop a drug” capable of knocking out or inactivating the underlying cause of obesity🤔. Please agree with me that this is shortsighted and unproductive. Believing that specific identifiable genes are the basis of obesity allows us to fatalistically blame a cause that we cannot control🤬. I find it tragic that although the topic of obesity has been researched so long, an explanation is still so far away. There has been very little progress in our efforts to bring this “disease” under control with research and drugs👎🏻. Science is complex, but the practical answer to obesity is much simpler than what we think.
It is right at the end of our fork😍 we can all do it. If you make a positive change, tag me #esinmademedoit ❣️🦋

@nutritionbeatz Insight for Inflammation👇🏻
Inflammation is at the root of diseases like Alzheimer’s, arthritis, heart disease, and cancer. It refers to the mechanism of the body to fight off foods and environmental factors. Body can enter a state of chronic inflammation if exposed to too much hazards, which can become the root of chronic diseases🤔. I can say 70% of the inflammation in the body is caused by the foods whereas 30% can be attributed to pollution etc. Healthy fats are one of the best anti-inflammatory foods🤗. The group encompasses cold water fish, soaked walnuts, #hemp oil, #avocados... (Turns out avocados are good for babies as well😄)
Moreover, the less you eat, the less inflammation in your body & the more you sleep, the less inflammation in your body. #nbinflammation

@nutritionbeatz Why do we smoke...?
Addiction? Pleasure? Habits? Social pressure? Looking for ways to enjoy the moment more? As ambiguous as the reasons for smoking can get, the consequences of smoking is dead clear: a big payoff from health. No exceptions.
A smoker may live up to a 100 years, that means if smoking was out of the equation, that person would live up to 120. Dead clear.
Genes may or may not be on your side. Smoking is never on your side.
There are no “healthier” ways of smoking, all are unexceptionally bad.
You can always, always, ALWAYS change what you’re gonna do the next minute, the next hour, tomorrow, the next week, the next year.
If you need change, the next minute is your start point❣️lots of love #cheers #healthylife #healthiswealth

@nutritionbeatz Why you should NOT eat before bed👇🏻
During night, your body needs to “reset” itself by getting rid of dead & malfunctioning cells. In order this to happen, you need to be done with digestion. Insulin and digestive hormones disrupt body’s shift from day to night, thus disrupt the onset of this reset😑 Eating before bed means forcing the body to do vigorous #digestion during a time that is dedicated to get rid of the “dirt”.
Another equally problematic point of late night eating is how body reacts to it. When body digests during the night, it wants to do it quickly; it turns everything into fat to be stored around the belly😫. This is perhaps the fastest way to get done with the last minute foods.
The point is, eating before bed means an unefficient #sleep (waking up tired) and an increased potential of belly fat🥵.
Give yourself the pleasure of a satisfying sleep and a #skinny little tiny belly😄👙😘 by eating before 6pm.

@nutritionbeatz Ate too much🧐?
Here is what to do👇🏻
1. Relax. Because it is 100% fine.
2. Walk. An easy stroll will help stimulate your digestion and even out your blood sugar levels👌🏻.
3. Don’t lie down. When you lie down with a full stomach, #food can work its way back up.
4. Sip on water for the rest of the day. Don’t chug☝🏻.
5. Skip the bubbles. Carbonated drinks are not good after big meals.
6. Work out the next day. Sweat the salt out🏋🏼‍♀️😉.

@nutritionbeatz W’all love healthy fats😉.
However there is one thing we need to pay attention to when cooking with them: smoke points🔥. The higher the smoke point, the better chance that oil won’t oxidize - the better that oil is suited for high heat cooking.
Almond oil, walnut oil, and flaxseed oil should be used occasionally as a dressing or finishing #oil as they oxidize more easily. Among the other ones all I can say is - play with them and you’ll eventually decide on a “favorite”😸💋

@nutritionbeatz Antinutrients & Home-Scale Processing😏
Soaked beans, fermented vegetables, sprouted grains. Are these just ‘better-for-you’ bs or do they have a meaning🤔?
The latter👌🏻. Plants naturally include “antinutrients” like phytic acid, lectin, tannins, protease inhibitors etc. It’s possible you’ve heard of these bad guys before😝. These antinutrients reduce the body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients and they are mostly found in the skin of the plant🥴. No worries cuz some good old techniques help.
Soaking allows the antinutrients to dissolve into the water (which is why the water turns dark)👍🏻. Sprouting (aka germination) leads to the degradation of antinutrients such as phytate and protease inhibitors👌🏻. Fermentation, likewise, greatly reduces the amount of phytic acid and lectins when bacteria or yeasts start digesting the plant👊🏻.

@nutritionbeatz Protein & Growth🧐👇🏻
What does “quality protein” refer to? It refers to food proteins that stimulate the most growth in an organism. Examples are eggs, milk, meat - animal foods🐄. These “quality” proteins are perceived to be the best in promoting growth due to an optimal amino acid ratio🤔. The more quality proteins you eat, the more your metabolism is stimulated for growth. “Growth” here might mean getting taller or more muscular, as well as producing more cells, unnecessary tissues, and maybe even tumors🧐.
Interestingly enough, “quality” doesn’t overlap with “healthy”👿. Growing fast is not healthy for the human body. Compare yourself to the animals you eat. Are any of those animals grow slower than humans? No, because their cells are programmed to grow faster, and the result for us to eat them is that we’re constantly in growth🤦🏼‍♀️. That is why high protein intake is mostly correlated with cancer. Genius💅🏻. #nbprotein #nbcancer #nbgrowth

@nutritionbeatz 🔬💊Fruits and Vegetables in a capsule.. Does it work😼👇🏻?
With companies like Juice Plus+, there is an increasing interest in selling fruits and vegetables that are reduced to a powder and put into capsules🙀. Companies find their ways of clever marketing, but are the products really competitive of the actual fruits and vegetables? Not yet😼. All I can say is that the studies done to show the benefits of such capsules are all biased one way or another. Unfortunately, oversimplifying biology and nutritional science doesn’t always overlap with reality😹.
BUT, that said, food technology is growing everyday and I don’t see a reason why scientists can’t develop such products in 5, 10 years😸. It just requires more research, study, tests, analysing the human body😽 … #nbsupplements #nbdrugs #nbvegetables

@nutritionbeatz Metabolic Programming👇🏻
… is why you should eat “good” when pregnant. Metabolic Programming refers to the #epigenetic alterations of the baby inside the uterus due to the suboptimal intrauterine environment🙇🏼. It suggests that intrauterine environment to which a fetus is exposed can have a long-term impact on the health after birth☝🏻. Metabolic programming that is caused by hostile intrauterine experience can render the offspring to be more vulnerable to chronic diseases such as #diabetes, #hypertension, #cardiovasculardisease, or obesity☝🏻. @nutritionbeatz Oxalates & GI System👇🏻
For some people, foods high in oxalate have a bad rep for causing kidney stones. However, the real culprit is not really the oxalate foods like #spinach, #arugula or almonds, but it is the malfunctioning digestive system👿. The reduced amounts of the beneficial bacteria like oxalobacter formigenes, and the increased presence of #candida, for example, can contribute greatly to oxalate sensitivity☝🏻. Evidence indicates that people with poor digestive system not only have sensitivity to #oxalates but also have sensitivities against histamine, #lectins and salicylates in food😒. Specific #anti-fungal herbs like oregano leaf, #curcumin (from turmeric), and garlic have been shown to effectively kill candida whilst specific fermented foods can help to rebuild a healthy inner ecosystem🌟.
