A selfie and a story about how I lost - and found - my phone on a Swiss train. Sunday, 10am. We’re on a train heading to Appenzell and I’m proud of myself for finally getting up and getting ready early enough to make it to the mountains before noon. Right as the train announces next stop: Gossau (where we need to get off and switch), I realize it’d be nice to make it to the bathroom beforehand so I run downstairs early (it’s a two-floor train) and go in a rush. I make it, the train stops, we get out. All good. Just need to find the platform of our next train - the one heading to Wasserauen. I go to check the platform on the SBB app on my phone.. and can’t find the phone. I search frantically - the bag, the pockets, look around. It hits me. I forgot my phone on the train. Must’ve been the bathroom. The rush. Ugh! And the train pulls away just as I realize it! Eff eff!! So as I’m mentally kicking myself for not backing up my phone and saving the photos and thinking how do I do any posts in Insta.. wait how do I do anything.. all my emails.. we quickly check SBB and there is an emergency number. We call and explain. The phone is just lost, the train just left - can you reach the conductor somehow and tell him/her to take it? The train is going to St Gallen, can you tell us if it stays there? The woman on the phone is not very helpful.. she doesn’t know when the train will be cleaned, she can’t tell us if it will come back our way, and no she can’t reach anybody. Record the loss in our online system she says. ... Ok, so we decide to chase the phone ourselves. We call it but it goes straight to voicemail. I panic - did someone already find it and turn it off? Why? We check the train timetable. By this point, there is another train going direction St Gallen in 15 minutes. We could hop on it and try to track our train and the phone. There is no conductor in sight and no one to ask anything but we figure - St Gallen is a bigger station, we’d be able to do more there. But then we check again and see that there is a train *coming back* from St Gallen in *20* minutes. We calculate the timing and number of stops... continued in comments ⬇️

Think you will find your iPhone backs itself up regularity. If you and your boyfriend both have iPhones, you can track each other’s phones. In the old days, when photos were developed, Kodak lost 1/2 of our honeymoon photos. I have iPads, too, and my phones and iPads all sync everything between the devices, too.
Left our back pack on the train on the way to Jucker farm, when were first arrived here, included our phones, id, wallet etc.. rookie mistake to put everything into one bag! Lodge a report with SBB & went back to the regional train station, was told if no contact after 4 days it’s deemed lost, cancelled cards, ph etc.. 10 days later SBB call to say it’s been found, everything in tact even the cash in wallet!
I did the same thing!!! Left my phone on train at HB the day before I was flying to Kiev a couple of years ago!!! 🙈 luckily a Swiss lady picked it up & answered it and I went to pick it up from her at her home town about 20 miles away! So relieved! 😍
