👉🏼Lateral ankle sprains are an extremely common injury I see in the clinic. I typically see people rest far too long, or try to push through all of the pain and swelling.

🔑A large part of rehabbing an inversion ankle sprain is progressing ankle strength and mobility appropriately.
——
💎If you just sprained the ankle very recently, and there is swelling... we need to find ways to regain ankle mobility not in full weight bearing.
——
1️⃣The first video is a partial weight bearing “heel to toe slide” to encourage ankle plantar/dorsiflexion and big toe extension.
2️⃣The second vid is a weighted soleus raise. The soleus is a deeper calf muscle that gets ignored frequently in rehab.
⏩The last two at more traditional exercises but still very beneficial early on in your recovery.

NECK PAIN REHAB

The neck can be a worrisome place to experience pain. We hear about these unpleasant conditions and pathologies such as disc herniations, degeneration, loss of curvature, bone spurs, and the list goes on. However, in many cases, these things are completely normal! I understand your concerns, but I assure you that we’ve learned over the years through research and experience that people can get better despite what an x-ray or MRI might show. Diagnoses usually sound scarier than they actually are.
.
The neck is also oftentimes seen as fragile, but it benefits from movement and strengthening just like any other region of the body. As always, though, it’s best to address the complex nature of pain by examining all the possible contributors to your symptoms. With that being said, here is a general guideline of exercises that may positively impact your rehabilitation.
.
Thoracic Movement: Kinematic studies show us that the thoracic spine directly influences the movement that occurs in the cervical spine. This can be a great starting point for individuals with irritable symptoms.
.
Neck Movement: As important as the thoracic spine is, the majority of the movement at the neck comes from the cervical spine. Begin moving it within tolerance to gradually regain full range of motion and confidence.
.
Neck Isometrics: Easy way to introduce load at any hour of the day to improve resilience. Start light and add time/intensity as tolerated.
.
Neck Flexion/Extension/Sidebend: It is safe to load the neck. You just have to find the comfortable amount and progress it over time. These are different ways to exercise the neck and surrounding musculature in a variety of planes.
.
Shoulder Strength: This can be a good way to provide stimulation to the area and improve the overall tissue capacity in this region.
.
Walking: Because it’s useful for just about anything. If possible, go outside and leave your phone at home.

#musclestrength Instagram Hashtag - After work movement with a foam roller. If you’re one of the many who sits at a desk job for long periods of time - chances are that your body may not be going through the many ranges of motion that it has available. This video outlines 3 exercises with a foam roller that I personally enjoy doing after a long day of sitting at work.

1️⃣ - First exercise is a supine foam roll lay with shoulder flexion. You will simply lie down with your spine in alignment with the foam roller. Make sure knees are bent. Then - you will alternate your arms up overhead switching from left to right. Try to avoid arching your low back when reaching up. Repeat for 20-30 reps total.
.
.
2️⃣ - This next exercise is a modified standing straddle stretch with the foam roller there for support. Be sure to hinge at the hips and feel a deep stretch in both the hamstrings and adductors (inner thigh). Slowly shift from side to side with hands on foam roller (for support) once deep stretch position is found. Avoid rounding of the low back. Try hold for 1-2 mins and be sure to breathe.

3️⃣ - Next exercise is a simple plantar fascia roll using the foam roller. Position top of foot on the foam and slowly roll foot back and forth searching for areas with increased tension. Keep hand on the wall or something sturdy for support. Try to roll out each foot for roughly 1-2 mins.
.
.
🐥 - This quick and simple routine can help to combat some of the tension from a long work day and just get things moving :). If done quickly and with purpose - it may take no more than 10 mins and can easily be done during commercials. Please share with someone who could benefit from seeing this!

As usual, we colored all the target muscles in red, the synergistic (auxiliary) muscles in pink, and the main stabilizing muscles in light brown.

Holding the rope backwards slightly reduces the load on the wrist joint.

Many people complain of shoulder or neck pain when attempting a pull up or chin up? Being able to position the scapula in a stable position at the bottom of a pull up is important in being able to execute the full exercise efficiently.

Martin demonstrates the scapula pull up, which is a regression from the full pull up. Can you see that he is just isolating the movement to the shoulder blades without even bending his arms? This is potentially how we would train someone before giving them a full range pull up. We would break down the exercise into smaller, more achievable movements and then build up from there.

This group of videos is the exercises that I am currently performing after suffering an ankle sprain basketball recently. Why am I running on my toes and not striking the ground with the BALL of my foot! I gotta tell ya: IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! Hoping soon I can rid the glute/ hip pain that’s plagued me FOREVER.

This exercise requires the full demand of the shoulder and scapular muscles to take your arms throughout a nearly full range of motion. WHEN/WHY would you use this in your training/rehab?

#musclestrength Instagram Hashtag - As I find myself awaiting yet again another surgery, this time on my left shoulder's labrum due to an injury participating in an alumni football game June 29th 2019. I figured I would share a FEW of my more serious injuries, as well as show the struggles I train through on a regular basis while I wait.
.
The 1st picture when I was 21 is actually a few weeks after being told I was allowed to start running and training again. They said my screws would likely break in a few months with athletic activities/lifting. (It's normal) Most time spent recovering was due to the time it took to recover from fully torn Achilles tendon as well as nearly every other damaged tendon & ligament in my right ankle along with a fractured fibula. (I also broke my right ankle/tibia at the age of 16 in football practice after a severe ankle sprain skateboarding months prior.)
This injury also occurred during a football drill. Great luck right?
.
The 2nd and 3rd pic was from the actual event of the injury. From then on I never forgot to wear ankle braces during practice 😂.
.
The 4th pic shows my screws still intact shortly after surgery.
.
The 5th 6th and 7th pictures show Basic atrophy/muscle loss as well as some cool scars, a lot of bruising & swelling.
.
The 8th & 9th pictures are actually during my 2nd hernia operation at the age of 20. The 9th seems almost shiny but it's the reflection from the mesh screen they stitched to me. I also had a hernia repaired at a very young age 4 or 5 years old I believe.
.
The last picture was from minutes after I started to wake up from my hernia operation I believe.
.
As you can see in a previous post this injury has made life a bit different, the stiffness in my right leg eventually worked it's way into my hips and back leading to minor scoliosis. This causes me daily pain if not cared for properly. (Strengthening/Stretching) However I have found many ways to train around this injury and still engage the appropriate muscles for a great leg day. After this Injury I was told I would likely not be able to play football anymore which I couldn't take. A year after surgery/recovery I stepped onto the college 🏈 field for the 1st time. #perseverance

Many people do the mistake of performing exercises that only targets one part of the chest, but research suggests that we can actually target different parts of a muscle by adjusting the movement, e.g. Incline vs. decline bench press.
⠀
🍉 Some exercises, like the flat bench press targets the whole chest to a degree and is also very commonly used as you can easily overload it to grow stronger and build a bigger chest.

I would make sure to implement movements that targets both your upper and lower chest to get an overall strong and complete looking chest.
